Nalati Grassland Overview
Nalati GrasslandLocated in Nalati Town, Xinyuan County, Ili Prefecture, Xinjiang, this site is one of the world's four great grasslands and Xinjiang's most famous grassland destination. The Nalati Grassland consists of two sections: the Sky Grassland at an elevation of approximately 2000 meters, and the River Valley Grassland at approximately 1000 meters.
The core charm of Nalati Grassland lies in the perfect blend of snow-capped mountains and lush pastures. In the distance, the Tianshan peaks rise majestically; up close, emerald grasslands stretch out, dotted with grazing herds and traditional Kazakh yurts, creating a serene and breathtaking pastoral scene.
Best time to visit
Summer (Months 6-7)
Summer is the peak season for Nalati's scenery. Lush green grasslands, blooming wildflowers, and clear views of snow-capped mountains create a stunning landscape. From late 6 to early 7, wildflower meadows reach their fullest bloom, with golden lotus, wild poppies, and lavender in full splendor.
Autumn (Month 9)
In early 9, the Nalati Grassland begins to change color, shifting from emerald green to golden yellow. The distant snow-capped mountains become more distinct, while herds of cattle and sheep graze across the plains, painting a serene autumn pastoral scene.

Sky Meadow
The Sky Grassland is the core area of Nalati, located at an elevation of approximately 2000 meters. After taking the shuttle bus to the summit, you can explore by horseback or on foot. The Sky Grassland offers expansive views, with snow-capped mountains, grasslands, and forests all within sight.
Recommended RouteShuttle Station → Celestial Terrace → Nomadic Village → Celestial Terrace → Shuttle Station. Total travel time: approximately 2-3 hours.
Riverside Prairie
The River Valley Grassland surrounds Nalati Town at a lower elevation with a mild climate. Here, you can experience Kazakh nomadic life, including horseback riding, archery, and tasting milk tea and hand-grabbed mutton.
Panlong Ancient Road
Panlong Ancient Road is a winding mountain highway connecting the Sky Grassland and River Valley Grassland, offering stunning scenery along the way. You can drive yourself or take the shuttle bus; the full journey takes about 30 minutes.
Experience Project
Horseback riding
Nalati is the ideal destination for experiencing Kazakh horseback riding culture. Led by local herders, tours traverse deep grasslands and the foothills of snow-capped mountains. Rates range from 100 to 200 CNY per hour.
Kazakh Yurt Experience
In Kazakh yurts on the grasslands, enjoy authentic traditional dishes such as milk tea, hand-grabbed meat, and naan. Stay overnight in a yurt to experience nomadic life.
Photography
Nalati is a paradise for photography enthusiasts. The best shooting times are between 8 and 10 AM, and 5 and 7 PM, when the light is soft and colors are vibrant.
Nearby Attractions Integration
Bayinbuluke
From Nalati, head south along the Duku Highway for approximately 3 hours to reach Bayinbuluke Grassland. The Nine-Bend Sunset at Bayinbuluke is one of Xinjiang's most spectacular sunset views.
Kalajun Grassland
Kalajun Grassland, located in Tekes County and known as the "Human Body Grassland," is approximately 2 hours from Nalati. Its rolling contours are softer and more picturesque, making it another paradise for photography enthusiasts.
Lavender of Huocheng
Lavender fields in Huocheng County bloom from mid-to-late 6. About 3 hours away from Nalati, it's a must-see summer destination.
