How should I plan an autumn itinerary for Xinjiang?
For autumn trips to Xinjiang, plan 7 to 8 days in Northern Xinjiang and 7 to 10 days in Southern Xinjiang. From mid-9 to early 10, explore Northern Xinjiang's Kanas, Hemu, and Keketuohai. Then, from mid-10 to early 11, head south to the Luntai Tarim Populus Euphratica Forest Park to witness the golden poplars. Travel between regions via the Duku Highway or by flight.
The Northern Xinjiang loop involves long driving distances. From Urumqi to Burqin is approximately 680 km, and from Burqin to Kanas is about 160 km. We recommend limiting daily travel to between 300 and 400 km to allow time for photos and rest. In Southern Xinjiang, the route from Kashgar to Tashkurgan covers roughly 300 km, with elevation gradually rising to around 4000 meters; be sure to take regular breaks.
